Support Staff

The unit has a dedicated team of support staff that help it to function effectively. With the majority of the CVBRU investigators being practicing clinicians, the support staff provide a vital infrastructure that allows research to be carried out efficiently and ethically. Without them it would be impossible for the investigators to conduct research alongside their clinical work.

Dr Sarah Langridge:

CVBRU Manager Sarah Langridge is part of the foundations of the unit. Dr Langridge was involved in the redesign process that saw the Centre for Biomedical Research become the home of the CVBRU and has been the manger of the unit since January 2009.

After originally securing a degree in Biochemistry and Microbiology from the University of Sheffield, Sarah went on to gain a PhD before undertaking a management training course with Boots The Chemist.

After working for Boots as a healthcare market analyst, Dr Langridge returned to Sheffield and worked as a research administrator at The University Medical School.

Then when the chance arose, she moved over to manage the CVBRU as it moved into its newly redesigned home.

The redesign process has been one of the highlights of the job so far for Sarah, along with working alongside the large amount of trainees and helping to see their careers flourish as part of the unit.

Mr Stephen Hibbert:

Mr Hibbert is the unit’s resident computer scientist. After graduating from the University of Birmingham with a degree in Mathematics he worked for UKCCSG, developing their database systems. This was followed by a spell working for the MRC in Gambia. This role involved more widespread It management but still maintained a focus on database development in aid of clinical trials.

When he moved back to the U.K. Stephen took a job with the University of Manchester working on their student systems including business and corporate applications.

In 2009 Stephen moved to the CVBRU to develop the patient information database.
