Post Mortem Tissue Bank

One of the major hurdles facing those researching Pulmonary Hypertension is the lack of access to tissue of PH sufferers.

Professor Ian Sabroe has developed a unique tissue bank designed to overcome this problem. This Bank will arrange transportation and limited post mortem of dying patients with all forms of Pulmonary Hypertension.

This project has already passed ethical review and has the support and involvement of the Patient’s Association. Professor Sabroe has conducted a focus group of patients and their relatives in an attempt to sensitively deal with issues arising around recruitment and acceptability.

The Bank is also supported by all of the Pulmonary Hypertension centres around the country, with each centre having its own local lead. It is hoped that the Bank will become a unique national and international resource, run with the Patient’s Association at its heart, so that patients are truly at the centre of guiding research.
