Coronary Artery Disease and Renal Disease
The CVBRU has wished to expand its investigation in other conditions characterised by a high mortality from CAD. To this end a targeted development of research in CAD in the context of renal impairment has been started. This also facilitates an interface with the Bone BRU.
The CVBRU appointed Dr Tim Ellam to a one year entry-level clinical research fellowship. Dr Ellam has established a murine model of the effect of dietary phosphate intake on atherosclerosis, an in vitro study of the effect of phosphate on endothelial transcription and is in the process of establishing a normal volunteer study.
Dr Gurminder Khamba (Renal SpR, Leicester rotation) has also been appointed to a CVBRU one year clinical research fellowship. He will study endothelial function in patients with Polycystic Kidney Disease.
