Coronary Artery Disease and Acute Coronary Syndromes

Coronary Artery Disease is the leading cause of death in the western world. It is caused by a build up of plaque in the arteries that supply the heart with oxygenated blood.

Acute Coronary Syndromes are sets of symptoms that relate to the heart. They include conditions such as unstable angina and both types of myocardial infarction, or heart attacks.

Research in these areas is essential. With such a large proportion of deaths resulting from these conditions, breakthroughs in treatment have the potential to have a huge benefit on the health of the population and the quality of healthcare provision.
