Alongside our world class research, we hope to equip all those who train and work in our unit to develop expertise that they can take with them in to the future.

With this aim in mind, we launched our training programme in January 2010. This multi-disciplinary programme is available to everyone including staff, BMedSci students, PhD students and research fellows.

The training programme has three tiers—designed to ensure that we meet everyone’s needs.

Inductions

We run these each time we have new trainees in the department, guaranteeing new personnel are accredited and safe to work.

Core programme

This covers the important areas of bone metabolism, and provide support with generic skills such as writing, presenting and statistics.

Advanced programme

This runs over two years, and is intended to build on the core programme to develop greater knowledge of bone metabolism and related areas.

For more information on our training programme, please contact our Training Co-ordinator, Dr Jennie Walsh Jennifer.Walsh2@sth.nhs.uk.

Additional Information

BMedSci projects

Our BMedSci students are supported throughout their project by staff at the Biomedical Research Unit, and benefit from our extensive training programme, which not only gives them a basic understanding of bone biology and current ‘hot topics’, but also provides training courses in good writing techniques, literature searches, presentation skills, research design and other valuable skills to apply to their academic and professional careers.

The Biomedical Research Unit for Musculoskeletal Disease has a strong track record of publication and it is anticipated that the work undertaken by students during the year will result in peer-reviewed presentations and publications.
