Dr Nicola Peel
DM, FRCP
Consultant Physician and Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer in Metabolic Bone Medicine, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
Research interests
• Evaluation of techniques used in the diagnosis and management of osteoporosis, including:
- measurement of bone mineral density of the peripheral skeleton
- use of biochemical markers of bone turnover to monitor treatment response in clinical practice
• Effects of the contraceptive agent, depot medroxyprogesterone acetate, on skeletal maturation
• Patients’ perceptions of research involvement
Clinical Responsibilities
• Supervision of multi-disciplinary clinical team and integration of clinical services with the Academic Unit, enabling early implementation of innovative techniques into clinical practice
• Introduction of Vertebral Fracture Assessment scanning into the fracture risk assessment pathway (FRAS pathway)
External positions
• Member of the Programme Committee and the Bone Densitometry Forum of the National Osteoporosis Society (NOS)
• Faculty member for the NOS certification course for bone densitometry
