Health experts set up stall in support of Older People’s Day

Experts from Sheffield Teaching Hospitals will be manning a market stall in the city centre giving out advice and resources in support of National Older People’s Day.

A therapist and two therapy assistants from the Trust’s Integrated Care Team will be running a stall in the Moor Market from 9.30am to 4pm on Thursday 5 October.

The team will be checking blood pressure, testing balance and providing advice in relation to the results.

They will also have a presentation on falls – a common cause of injury and hospital admissions for older people – and how to reduce the risk.

As well as this they will be handing out resources and advice on staying active, exercise, mental health and sleeping.

Older People’s Day aims to celebrate the achievements and contributions of older people to society.

Rachel Brandreth, the Operational Lead for the Integrated Care Team, said: “We hope that we can provide some useful and practical advice and guidance to the public, and look forward to meeting lots of people at our market stall.”
