Podiatrists awarded customer excellence standard for 16th year running

Podiatrists at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have been awarded the Customer Service Excellence Standard (formerly the Charter Mark) for the sixteenth consecutive year, and this year have been highlighted by the assessor for a special recognition.

The Customer Service Excellence standard is a national award which is independently assessed and awarded by the Cabinet Office in recognition of excellent customer service.

Not only have the team been awarded the standard of excellence, this year they have achieved Compliance Plus which means that certain areas of the service exceed the requirements of the standard, and are viewed as exceptional or as an exemplar for others.

Sheffield Podiatry Services is a nationally recognised facility which provides a range of treatments for a range of foot conditions, from diabetes related services to forensic podiatry.

Dr Lisa Farndon, Podiatric Development Facilitator at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “The podiatry service continues to demonstrate its commitment to providing good quality patient centered care and I am proud of all the team who continue to deliver an excellent service.

“This year two areas were highlighted for special mention, including the corporate support for research in the care group and directorate and also the reduction in amputation rates for people with diabetes in Sheffield with the integrated pathway across primary and secondary care.”

Last year the multi-disciplinary foot care team at Northern General Hospital was also recognised with a national award for significantly reducing diabetes related amputation rates in Sheffield by almost 50%.

The podiatry services at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust work in health centres and GP surgeries across the city, in both the Royal Hallamshire Hospital and Northern General Hospital’s diabetes and rheumatology departments, and patients’ homes. It also works with hard to reach groups including the homeless and traveller communities.
