Sheffield Travel Clinic helps 1000th patient set sail safely

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Travel Health Clinic has helped its 1000th patient to prepare for a safe journey this month.

Sophie Fell, visited the Sheffield Travel Health Clinic, which is based in the specialist department of Infection and Tropical Medicine at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, to make sure she had all the appropriate vaccinations and travel-related equipment, before she embarked on an around the world trip which will see her visit 31 countries.

Sophie, 30, will spend a year travelling across South East Asia, South America and Central America as well as Australasia, taking part in numerous voluntary schemes as she goes. She said getting help at the travel clinic had saved her a lot of time and stress running up to her trip.

“The clinic is brilliant because it provides everything you need all under one roof so it’s really convenient. Also, it’s very reassuring that the clinic is based at the hospital because you know that you are getting real expert medical advice. They were able to answer all my questions and spent time to get the details of where I was going to work, so I could have all the protection I needed. This included quite a few vaccinations as I’m covering quite a distance but also medicines and mosquito protections. Now I have all the medical things sorted out, all I have to think about is what to pack!”
