Patients at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals benefit from one of the fastest heart attack services in the country

According to official statistics Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the fastest hospitals to operate on patients who have suffered a heart attack.

The Myocardial Ischaemia National Audit Project report published by the Royal College of Physicians showed that 88 per cent of patients at the Northern General Hospital received primary angioplasty within 150 minutes of calling for help - meaning the Trust’s new service is ranked amongst the best in the country.

The Primary Angioplasty Service, based at the Northern General Hospital (NGH), which was devised in partnership with the Yorkshire Ambulance Service, provides a faster and more effective way for patients to receive the treatment they need when they have suffered a certain type of heart attack called STEMIs.
