Here are some highlights from the report -
What the Trust did in 2011 to eliminate discrimination, harassment and victimisation
- We made changes to staff policies to make sure they covered all the groups protected by new Equality legislation.
- We worked with organisations that specialise in Dementia so that the Trust could understand the needs of people who have Dementia.
- We decided to focus some of our Quality improvement work on improving the care received by older people using our services.
- What the Trust did in 2011 to advance equality of opportunity for protected groups.
- A pictorial communication guide was produced to help patient care for non English speakers.
- Easy read information was developed across the organisation in different services to meet the needs of specific patient groups.
- A web site was launched for staff which provides information for staff about providing good quality services to people with Learning Disabilities.
- The Trust has also worked in partnership with ‘PhotoSymbols Ltd’ to produce a wider range of photosymbols for people with learning disabilities who might use hospital services
What the Trust did in 2011 to foster good relations between people in protected groups and others
- We were involved with other NHS organisations in engagement events and activities which looking at the new equality legislation and the NHS Equality Delivery System.
- We renewed our membership of Stonewall and set up a ‘Mindful Employer’ group.
- We asked our Governors to tell us which types of activities they would like to be involved with including activities to support equality work.
- We worked with mental health and learning disability specialist services in the city to improve services for people with Learning Disabilities or Mental Health Conditions.
- Our Equality and Human Rights Steering Group and our Equality and Human Rights Operational Leads group met regularly.
- We started four staff network groups these are a BME group, an overseas staff group, a Disability group and Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) group.
- We had a stall at Sheffield’s 2011 LGBT Pride event. We promoted information about Stonewalls survey of men’s health and other relevant information.
