Sheffield Teaching Hospitals is called a 'Teaching Hospital' because of its strong links with the University of Sheffield, Sheffield Hallam University and other learning establishments that enable us to offer the highest quality pre-registration and post-graduate education for staff in a variety of roles.

Education and research are major components of the Trust's philosophy and greatly contribute to our aims to offer the highest quality healthcare to patients whilst continuously improving the patient experience.

The Hospitals has been responsible for pioneering advances in medical technology and treatments that are now regularly employed in hospitals around the country.

Many of the specialist services available at the Teaching Hospitals take patients from all over the North Trent region - Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham, Sheffield and parts of North Derbyshire - and some services, which are only offered in a few other NHS centres across the country, treat patients from all over the UK.
